JOB PURPOSE:
The Child Protection TA works to ensure the programming quality of all of NP’s child protection programming in South Sudan. Working closely with the Senior Program Manager and engaging directly with field staff, the TA ensures consistency and quality in programming, as well as supporting child protection coordination, advocacy and fundraising and the national level. Nonviolent Peaceforce in South Sudan integrates child protection into its community-based protection programming and also runs stand-alone child protection programming, working in refugee and IDP sites as well as rural areas experiencing high levels of violence and displacement.
KEY OBJECTIVES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Programme Implementation
· Support the implementation of NP’s community-based child protection program in all field sites, both from HQ and through frequent field visits.
· Support the Program Development Department in program design, evaluation and reporting.
· Ensure the consistency of NP’s child protection programming across all sites.
· Develop tools to improve NP’s Child Protection programming and support the teams to implement the tools
· Provide technical advice to all levels of programme management on
· Work to ensure NP’s Protection Mainstreaming work incorporates child protection mainstreaming.
· Support coordination between teams on specific cases, as well as with other agencies when necessary.
· Support field teams on effective state and local level coordination.
Representation and Advocacy
Represent Nonviolent Peaceforce South Sudan at all Child Protection coordination fora at the national level.
Feed into technical working groups at the national level, particularly those on Family Tracing and Reunification, Psychosocial Support and MRM.
Support NP’s advocacy efforts with providing analysis on the effect of conflict and violence on children in South Sudan.
Financial & Operational Management
Support the development of budget items for child protection activities.
Support the provision of items needed for Child Protection programming, including supplies for support to vulnerable children and kits received through UNICEF
Personnel Management
Support recruitment processes for both international and national Child Protection Officers, including serving on interview panels.
Engage in direct coaching for staff involved in Child Protection programming.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
A.Education, Knowledge and Experience
At least 2-3 years of child protection and coordination work in a similar humanitarian environment. Advanced post-secondary degree in child protection, public health, protection or related.
B.Skills
Independent Judgment/Analytical:* Able to prioritize both short and long-term needs and implement based on those priorities
Able to analyze both local and national level child protection needs and emergency capacities
Proven research and analysis skills Interpersonal: * Able to work effectively with both international and national staff
Able to coordinate with field teams from a distance and in a challenging communications environment
Able to build productive relationship across sectors and amongst actors with competing interests English Language: * Fluency in spoken and excellent written English is a requirement
Proven ability to write in-depth reports Information Technology: * Good computer skills a requirement, including Microsoft Office and email
C.Other Specialized Requirements
Able to travel throughout the country in harsh living conditions
Must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resourcefulness and creative problem solving
